The head of the laboratory is Alexey E. Bigildeev, Doctor of Biological Sciences.
The Laboratory of Epigenetic Regulation of Hematopoiesis was founded in 2022
The research interests of the laboratory staff include fundamental and applied research on the principles of epigenetic regulation, including hematopoiesis in normal and pathological blood systems; research in the field of stem cell biology; development of methods for the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of diseases of the blood system based on changes in the epigenetic landscape of cells.
Currently, the team is investigating the role of epigenetic modifications in the pathogenesis of oncohematological and other diseases of the blood system (1). Studies are being conducted on the methylation of CpG in promoters of individual genes that play an important role in the functioning of hematopoietic and stromal progenitor cells of the bone marrow and in immunity. For example, the structure of the interleukin-1 beta promoter has been studied and the key sites responsible for the constitutive activation of its expression in response to various stimuli and determining the tissue specificity of the expression of this factor have been identified (2). Another area of work is related to the study of immune privileges of various types of adult stem cells, in particular, mesenchymal stem cells (3).
