A group of experts from eight Central European countries, including Russia, has published a systematic review of 478 unique articles on the use of thrombopoietin receptor agonists in adults with immune thrombocytopenia. The review is published in the journal Annals of Hematology.Systematic reviews and meta-analyses are used in evidence-based medicine to make scientifically sound practical decisions and evaluate the effectiveness and safety of medicines. Currently, three drugs have been approved for the treatment of immune thrombocytopenia belonging to the group of thrombopoietin receptor agonists: romiplostim, eltrombopag, and avatrombopag. However, comparative clinical data have been lacking until recently.
The authors, including Anait L. Melikyan, Head of the Department for the Standardization of Treatment Methods of Hematological Diseases, hematologist, Doctor of Medical Sciences, conducted a systematic search in the medical bibliographic databases PubMed and Embase for 10 years until June 2022. 478 unique articles were found and checked for relevance.
Based on the results of the analysis, the experts presented conclusions that will help in the treatment of adult patients with ITP in real practice.
